hallo christoph und klara, ai weiwei hätte den teppich natürlich am liebsten für das betreten freigegeben, genauso, wie er es auch abgelehnt hat, eine absperrung um den tee-kubus zu machen – er findet es wichtig, dass die menschen mit den werken in kontakt treten können, beim tee z.b. durch riechen.
da aber auf dem teppich die installation “rooted upon” steht, die sehr fragil aufgebaut ist, musste aus gründen der sicherheit auf das begehen verzichtet werden. wenn eine der baumwurzeln umkippt, ist das kind, das darunter steht, schwer verletzt (oder schlimmeres). ich hoffe, sie haben dafür verständnis.

Dear Mr WeiWei,

I just finished my visit of your So Sorry exhibition ín the Haus der Kunst, Munich accompanied by my 8 year old daughter. You start the exhibition saying that you don’t mind your pieces to be changed by time. “there will be another wind”.

Than you present a number of works, which in our opinion demand and require a closer look, such as the woodworks, in particular the bench and the “Rooted Upon” including the carpet underneath.

Was it you or is it the museums guards out of instict of a museums guard (“don’t touch!”), who forbid walking accross a carpet, which is ment to be a 100% replacement of the underlying floor (where thousands of people were allowed to step on). In addition, the carpets purpose is to soften the noise of our step, but as nobody is allowed to step on it, the room remains noisy. The trunks on the carpet have been formed over hundreds of years by the influence of nature, but now people worry some scratches from people trying to take a closer look.

My daughter and my wish would be that you clarify the situation with the local museums guards. Don’t be afraid of the Munich visitors wind, your pieces of art, contemplation and rememberence will have an even bigger impact and will not be harmed. Let us enjoy your works with all our senses.

Am 09. Dezember wurde Ai Weiwei für den Kasseler Bürgerpreis “Das Glas der Vernunft” 2010 gewählt; die Preisverleihung wird am 26.10.2010 im Opernhaus des Kasseler Staatstheaters stattfinden. ….
